3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid is a fluoroketone with the ASHRAE designation of FK-5-1-12 and is manufactured by 3M™. Chemically, it is dodecafluoro-2-methylpentan-3-one, CF3CF2C(O)CF(CF3)2. It does not contain bromine, like Halon 1301 (CF3Br), which is the component identified as contributing to the depletion of the earth’s ozone layer. With zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), Novec™ 1230 is environmentally preferred. Novec™ 1230 also has the lowest atmospheric lifetime at 5 days and the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 1 versus other chemical clean agent alternatives.

Class-A Hazards – Novec™ 1230 can be used where people are normally present or normally occupied spaces, which represent more than 90% of the applications utilizing clean agent suppression systems for fire protection.

Class-B Hazards – Novec™ 1230 can be used where people are normally present or normally occupied spaces.

Class-C (electrically energized) Hazards – Novec™ 1230 is electrically non-conductive and non-corrosive, making it ideal for protection of areas with electrical equipment.
