Sprinkler Nozzles

BFPE carries an enormous variety of nozzles from a wide assortment of companies. If you don't see it here, ask us. We can probably get it. BFPE has selected a complete cross-section of nozzles. If you need assistance in making a nozzle decision, ask us. We know our nozzles.

Standard Response Sprinklers

Standard response spray sprinklers are intended for use in fire sprinkler systems designed in accordance with the standard installation rules recognized by the applicable Listing or Approval agency. There are two types of standard response sprinklers – bulb type and solder type.

Universal Model A, Designer, and Quartzoid® bulb type sprinklers are available in a variety of attractive finishes that blend well with their surroundings. When in stand-by service, a small bubble in the fluid contained in the bulb compensates for normal temperature changes. When heated, the fluid in the bulb expands and shatters the bulb which allows water to be discharged. Duraspeed® solder type sprinklers employ a bell-shaped copper link whose two sections are joined by solder with a predetermined temperature rating. Heat absorbed by the link is conducted directly to the soldered joint. When the solder melts, the link springs apart, releasing water that strikes the deflector.

Standard response sprinklers are designed for use in essentially all applications including office buildings, libraries, banks, theaters, factories, and warehouses.

Quick Response Sprinklers

Quick response sprinklers are designed to operate during earlier stages of fire development and help reduce damage, and enhance life safety. They are available in pendent, upright, recessed, concealed, vertical sidewall, and horizontal sidewall styles.

The narrow profile bulbs and attractive finishes of the Universal Model A provide specifiers with a wide variety of sprinklers for use in quick response applications. The Aquarius® Series offers discriminating specifiers the ultimate in a fusible solder type, low profile, flush style design, and the versatile Quick Response FR Series provides the specifier with a solder type sprinkler for most commercial and industrial applications.

Extended Coverage Sprinklers

Extended coverage (EC) sprinklers, unless otherwise noted, are for the protection of light hazard occupancies. They are intended for the protection of areas larger than those specified in standard installation rules. Extended coverage sprinklers are available in both standard response (EC) and quick response (QR-EC). They are available in pendent, horizontal sidewall, and recessed horizontal sidewall. These sprinklers are typically used in hotels, restaurants, office buildings, and any other large open area where it is desirable to either have one sprinkler per room or to reduce the overall number of required sprinklers.

Recessed and Concealed Sprinklers

Recessed sprinklers provide a double benefit. The attractive, recessed design has a more pleasing appearance in such applications as offices and retail settings. The design also has a very practical benefit. It allows the sprinkler system to be installed, tested, and evaluated prior to installation or finishing of a ceiling or wall. Escutcheon plates, available for these sprinklers, feature different ranges of adjustability for easy and neat installation after completion of the ceiling work.

Concealed sprinklers combine the ultimate in aesthetics with fire protection. The heart of the concealed assembly is a small-framed sprinkler head contained within an attractive enclosure that blends with the ceiling for an unobtrusive and pleasing appearance. The cover plate assembly consists of an enclosure and a cover plate that is soldered to the enclosure at three equidistant points around its periphery.

Special Purpose Sprinklers

Special purpose sprinklers are intended for use in specific installations. These installations may include the protection of high-piled storage, freezing and areas subject to corrosion. Also, these installations may need consideration for more water at lower pressures, more water over a greater area, or the need to minimize water damage.

Residential Sprinklers

The diverse line of residential sprinklers are aesthetically pleasing and among the most water usage efficient in the fire protection industry. Residential sprinklers are available in pendent, recessed pendent, concealed pendent, horizontal sidewall, recessed horizontal sidewall, flush pendent, and flush horizontal sidewall. They are intended for use in one- and two-family dwellings and mobile homes per NFPA 13D, residential occupancies up to four stories in height per NFPA 13R, and the residential portions of any occupancy per NFPA 13. The performance characteristics associated with residential sprinklers have been proven to help in the control of residential type fires and, therefore, to improve the chance for occupants to escape or be rescued.

High Pressure Sprinklers

High Pressure Sprinklers are intended for areas having a maximum service pressure in excess of the traditional 175 psi (12.1 bar). Their maximum rated service pressure of 300 psi (20.7 bar) makes them an excellent choice for applications that otherwise would require the use of a pressure control valve.

Available in either standard or quick response and in either standard or extended coverage, one of the most common applications for high pressure sprinklers is in fire protection systems for high rise buildings.

AquaMist® Systems

The Aquamist® Systems utilize the newest and most unique types of nozzles developed for fire protection. These systems, in some cases, offer an alternative to higher density automatic sprinkler systems, or an alternative to Halon and other gaseous agents such as carbon dioxide, or fixed water spray systems.

The mechanisms by which the AquaMist nozzle spray act to extinguish a fire can be a combination of the following factors, depending on the hazard:

  • Heat extraction from the fire as water is converted into vapor and the fuel is cooled
  • Reduced oxygen levels as the water vapor displaces oxygen near the fire
  • Dilution of flammable vapors by the entrainment of water vapor, to such an extent that the resultant mixture of vapor will not burn
  • Direct impingement wetting and cooling of the combustibles
  • Enveloping of the protected area to pre-wet adjacent combustibles, cool gases and other fuels in the area, as well as to block the transfer of radiant heat to adjacent combustibles
