Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid

Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid is a fluoroketone with the ASHRAE designation of FK-5-1-12 and is manufactured by 3M™. Chemically it is dodecafluoro-2-methylpentan-3-one, CF 3 CF 2 C(O)CF(CF 3 ) 2 . It does not contain bromine, like Halon 1301 (CF 3 Br) , which is the component identified as contributing to the depletion of the earth’s ozone layer. With zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), Novec™ 1230 is environmentally preferred. Novec™ 1230 also has the lowest atmospheric lifetime (5 days) and the lowest Global Warming Potential (1) versus other chemical clean agent alternatives.

Novec 1230 is an acceptable Halon 1301 alternative. 3M™ offers a unique warranty, the 3M™ Blue Sky™ Warranty , where 3M™ will refund the purchase price of the Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid if it is banned or restricted from use as a fire protection agent due to ODP or GWP.
