What is Mass Notification? The Federal Government in their United Facilities Criteria UFC 4-021-01 document defines it as: “Capability to provide real-time information to all building occupants or personnel in the immediate vicinity of a building during emergency situations.” Beginning in 2007, the Department of Defense started requiring Mass Notification (MN) in all facilities where military personnel live or work. Besides this requirement, OSHA regulation (29 CFR 1910.165 Employee Alarm Systems) notes that employee alarm systems reduce severity of workplace accidents and injuries.
