A Deluge System is a system that employs open-type sprinkler heads, which are always open and do not have a heat sensitive element. A Deluge System operates like a Pre-Action System in that piping system is not filled with water and does not fill until the deluge valve is released by the supplemental detection system. When the deluge valve releases the water into the system, every sprinkler head in the system discharges. Picture a typical Hollywood depiction of a sprinkler system. Water is discharged from every head, even where there is not a fire.
Deluge Systems provide fast and a total wetting of the protected area. They are frequently used in extra-hazard risks such as aircraft hangars, power generating stations, and petrochemical facilities.
